I want to thank you for the magnificent work on my violin. I have worked professionally for many years, in London Orchestras (The Philharmonia Orchestra of London and the BBC Symphony Orchestra) and in chamber music. Instinctively I have always felt that the set-up of my violin did not allow full tonal potential, and since your work I also realise that I was putting excessive effort into playing to overcome resistances and conflicts in the instrument.

In our initial consultations you devoted time and care to explaining the findings of your minutely detailed examination of the instrument, and how its acoustical potential might be more fully realised. Very important to me from the artistic viewpoint was the trouble you took to acquaint yourself with my playing style, and to discover what kind of sound and response I look for in a violin.

After the excellent and detailed work had been completed in your workshop, there followed further consultations, where I played and you listened, with startling sensitivity and insight, and made fine adjustments according to my reactions as well as yours. The instrument became more responsive than ever before, and undreamt-of tonal colours emerged. This was a process of enormous value to me, because the instrument was thus tailored to my individual requirements. It is unique in my experience.

The violin continues to be a delight to play. Double stopping is easier and acoustically more effective. The carrying power has increased and playing effort has decreased. Colleagues have been immediately impressed by the change.
