At Beecher Acoustics, every instrument prepared in our workshops is specifically set up for the individual player. This ensures that the breadth of tone and the control for playing in tune (Intonation) are in balance.
For beginners, it is vital that their ear does not become confused by the richness of sound, especially as they strive to develop their control and technique. An instrument suitable for an advanced player may well be too overwhelming for the beginner, where the “palette of colours” and “speed of response” are simply too complex.
For intermediate players, the setting up of their instrument is becoming increasingly important. The developing style and personality can be reinforced, and small “tweaks” made to the set-up of an instrument can really support the interaction. Many players find work in this area invigorating, commenting that they feel as if they have a new and exciting instrument that matches their vision.
For conservatoire and professional players, many of these skilled musicians have come to us from all over the world with a sense that their instrument is not really yielding the productive or fluent resonance they would like. In these instances, we offer a one to one session in our workshops, to assess the instrument’s potential and to plan for the optimal tone development.
Working with you - this involves an in-depth analysis of the mathematics and structural features of your particular instrument. We then follow this with a detailed report, describing the scope of work and time needed to attend to the fabric of the instrument, so that it can produce the tone and good projection which you are searching for. Close attention is also always given to your particular musical style and technique as an individual player.
Broadly speaking, we focus our sound development efforts around the following issues:
Intonation
Tone Projection
Balance of the Four Strings
Vibrato
